support | towards new futures

reFrame is a multidisciplinary art initiative that

(a) facilitates the emergence of new narratives from diverse social and political realities;
(b) produces narrative works that creatively respond to critical contemporary questions to reshape the discourse around gender, sexuality, marginality and intersectionality;
(c) activates, energises and empowers collaboration across art, artists and other public intellectuals;
(d) conducts public culture projects, pedagogical initiatives, festivals and other programmes for social and political change through the mobilisation of art and artists
(e) initiates research projects on issues that require deeper engagement with subjects, regions, materials and memory.

As words like gender, sexuality, marginality and intersectionality become buzzwords of our time, there is a critical need to reshape, if not reconfigure the discourse with new depth, meaning and texture across gender, issues, arts, grassroots practice, resilience and creativity. To create knowledge that emanates from women, queer and trans* folks speaking from different locations, living vastly different lives, surviving diverse political and personal challenges and speaking in languages that emerge from their lived experiences rather than from mainstream semantics.

reFrame plans for the future

  • to enable the creation and affirmation of the knowledge of women, queer and trans* folks speaking from different caste, class, region, ethnic, religious, dis/ability locations, living vastly different lives, surviving diverse political and personal challenges and speaking in languages that emerge from their lived experiences rather than mainstream semantics.

  • to discover, nurture and amplify new generations of women, queer and trans* storytellers and narrative builders by offering novel opportunities, guidance and support mechanisms for them to counter narratives about them with narratives of them, by them. narratives that expose, challenge, confront, celebrate their unique stories of living and loving, having work or leisure, relating with the community, the environment and the law, or simply surviving as ‘citizens’.

  • to remain committed to reshaping the public discourse with plurality of content and artistic treatment through programming and outreach that contributes to new cultures of learning.

  • to work towards the creation of an artistic eco-system that nurtures intellectual and political landscapes, crisscrossed by trains of varying thoughts and opinions, quite unlike the train-wreck of dominant forces that seeks to demolish every trace of difference and dissent today.

We are well aware of being just at the beginning of our journey. There is so much more to be done, and today, reFrame seeks support in the form of grants, partnerships and sponsorships from individuals and institutions whose worldview is aligned with ours. In complementing each other's strengths, we hope to collectively build a better, brighter, more artistic, imaginative, gentle, empathetic, equitable and inspiring future together.

The Brochure below provides a brief overview of our work over the last 5 years.
