towards new futures | a creative approach

As words like gender, sexuality, marginality and intersectionality become buzzwords of our time, there is a critical need to reshape, if not reconfigure the discourse with new depth, meaning and texture across gender, sexuality, inequality, discrimination, arts, grassroots practice, resilience and creativity. To create knowledge that emanates from women, queer and trans* folks speaking from varied locations, confronting different marginalities, living vastly different lives, surviving diverse political and personal challenges and speaking in languages that emerge from their lived experiences rather than from mainstream semantics.

But today this effort is part of a much bigger challenge: of contesting the haze of propaganda, morality and censorship that positions itself as a cultural force. It is in times likes this that the criticality of countercultures reveals itself. New ways of opposing dominant frameworks, working to create and affirm new forms of expression, values and possibilities based on diversity, justice, equality, liberty and dignity.

Which is why at reFrame, we work to facilitate the emergence of new voices from diverse social and political realities; produce works that creatively respond to critical contemporary questions to reshape the discourse around gender, sexuality, marginality and intersectionalityactivate, energise and empower collaborations across art, artists, community members and public intellectuals; conduct public culture projects, pedagogical initiatives, festivals and other programmes for social and political change through the mobilisation of art and artists; initiate research projects on issues that require deeper engagement with subjects, regions, materials and memory.

Towards tomorrow. Together.

We are aware of being at the beginning of our journey. There is so much to be done. That's why we are reaching out today. For support our efforts through a range of new and evolving programmes and projects ideas that:

  • expand the scope and scale of experience gained from supporting individual fellowships, standalone festivals, workshops and research projects

  • respond to the needs of community based members, students and other groups engaged in social change and transformation

  • take on the communication and advocacy challenges faced by groups specifically marginalised on the basis of their caste, community, tribe, occupation, location
  • celebrate the spirit of creativity in as many diverse ways and contexts as possible

We are looking for support in the form of grants, partnerships and collaborations from social and educational institutions as well as individuals whose worldview is aligned with ours.

In complementing each other's strengths and capacities, we hope to collectively build a better, brighter, more artistic, imaginative, gentle, empathetic, equitable, just and inspiring future together.
